Assistant Professor in Dairy Science

Dr. Sanjeev K. Anand has joined the Dairy Science Department at South Dakota State University as Assistant Professor. Dr. Anand holds Ph.D and M.S. degrees in Dairy Microbiology from the National Dairy Research Institute in Karnal, India, and a B.Sc. in Botany, Zoology and Chemistry from the D.S. College, Karnal, India. Dr. Anand specializes in public health microbiology of milk and meat and their products. He has obtained advanced training in cellular signals and virulence expression markers of pathogens, at the Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety, Guelph, Canada. His work experience includes over 20 years as a Scientist, under the Agricultural Research Services of Government of India. He has published over 90 peer reviewed articles and has presented over 60 guest lectures in various workshops/conferences/symposia. He has twice been a visiting fellow to the Food Microbiology Symposium organized by the University of Wisconsin River Falls, USA. He has also received several professional recognitions and awards for his contributions in the field of Dairy/ Food Microbiology

Dr. Anand has contributed extensively to international bodies like; International Dairy Federation and Codex Alimentarius Commission in the area of food safety and quality assurance. He is also a certified auditor for food quality and safety management systems like; ISO: 9001(2000) [IRCA, UK recognized}, ISO: 17025 [ILAC/APLAC, USA recognized], FSMS [Standards Australia, SAI Global recognized], HACCP Implementer [DNS, The Netherlands recognized], and GLP Inspector [under OECD guidelines].

In his new position at SDSU, Dr. Anand will teach Dairy Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Lab Techniques in Dairy Science and Environment Management of Dairy Systems. His areas of research interest are; disease predisposition markers in dairy cattle, resistance development and transfer in food pathogens, HACCP and product safety models, probiotic microflora and human health, quality assurance and food safety aspects of milk and dairy products encompassing the entire food chain.
