2005 High School Learning Earning Program

Two students have completed the 2005 High School Earning Learning program in Dairy Science. This program, cosponsored by the North Central Cheese Industries Association, Dairy Science department and the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences is in its third year and is designed to provide a comprehensive experience in Dairy Science for high school students that are entering their senior year. Activities this year included a week of work at the SDSU dairy farm, a week at the dairy plant, followed by work with dairy processing research projects in the lab as well as dairy plant. During the last week the students traveled approximately on guided tours of one commercial dairy production facility and five processing facilities within a 150-mile radius of Brookings. The students presented on their eight weeks of experience at the end of the program. The two students this year were from Brookings High School and Fairmount High School in North Dakota. In its three years of existence a total of eight students have participated in the program.
