2007 Dairy Science Scholarship and Awards Banquet

The 2007 Dairy Science scholarship and awards banquet was held on 2nd April at the Volstorff Ballroom in the student union on the SDSU campus. There were 180 people in attendance, including students and parents, donors and supporters, industry representatives, and SDSU faculty and staff. This year 77 scholarships and awards were presented, including 14 incoming student scholarships. A record total of $59,775 was awarded. This year featured several new scholarships, including those sponsored by Walter and Yvonne Wosje, John C, Gross, Susan Hawkins, and Todd and Erica Stahl. These individuals are all alumni of the Dairy Science department. In addition, the Emery Bartle Memorial scholarship was increased substantially to $4,000 by Mr. Bartle’s son in memory of his father who was a graduate of the department and a faculty member. This increase makes the Emery Bartle scholarship the top scholarship in Dairy Science. We were also pleased to have in attendance President David Chicoine and his wife Marsha. President Chicoine began his term as SDSU President in January 2007. Several incoming students and their families were also present. The program included presentations of judging team activities, and an address by the 2007 South Dakota Dairy Princess, Katie Norling, who is a Dairy Manufacturing freshman. The Dairy Club presented the 2007 edition of the Dairy Digest.

Details of Dairy Science scholarships may be viewed on the scholarships page.

The 2008 scholarships and awards banquet is planned for Monday, 7th April at the Student Union on the SDSU campus.
