2009 Dairy Science Scholarship and Awards Banquet

The 2009 Dairy Science scholarship and awards banquet was held on 6th April at the Volstorff Ballroom in the student union on the SDSU campus. There were 190 people in attendance, including students and parents, donors and supporters, industry representatives, and SDSU faculty and staff. Eighty five scholarships and awards were presented, including 16 incoming student scholarships. In spite of the difficult financial times, donors continued to be generous; a total of $61,430 was awarded. The two top scholarships were the Emery Bartle Memorial Scholarship and the Valley Queen Cheese Factory Scholarship. Both were awarded at $4,000 each. Of the 22 incoming students for fall’09 4 students and their families were also present. The program included presentations of judging team activities, and an address by the 2009 South Dakota Dairy Princess, Ana Schweer, who is a Dairy Production freshman. The Dairy Club presented the 2009 edition of the Dairy Digest.

The 2010 scholarships and awards banquet is planned for Monday, 5th April at the Student Union on the SDSU campus.
